Companion Handler
Effect: When your Affinity critical on a damage-reducing defense exceeds the incoming damage to which that defense applies, retain only the unused reduction. Apply it once to another reduction using the same defensive method before the start of your next turn; then consume it. Any unused reserve expires at the start of your next turn. This reserve is a fixed value, does not roll or crit, and cannot change methods, turn a successful control Contest into damage reduction, or replace the required legal defense. It is additional reduction, not a second defensive roll.
The first strike slides away, leaving the defender's weapon ready.
