Description and lore
A basilisk scale is prepared for armor and protective charms.
A loose scale offers its own texture: overlapping ridges, a worn edge and a hard outer surface. No living creature is needed to make the specimen distinctive.
Its fitted use can retain the scale's shape within a rim or layered plate. A protective object benefits from looking carefully made and close to the wearer.
