Description and lore
An old road heartstone is shaped into an instrument for examining a road's interruption.
Worn road surfaces carry the same dust as the gathered stone. A traveller can hold the specimen while looking along the route it will help them examine.
The finished instrument is kept with route notes. At the roadside, its user clears a patch of ground before setting it down for deliberate work.
